Privacy Policy

1. Information We Collect
Play&Learn Software Systems ("we", "us", or "our") operates the Play&Learn application. We collect information you provide directly, including:
- Account information (name, email address)
- Child profiles (name, grade level, preferences)
- Learning activity data (questions answered, progress, performance)
- Communications you send to us
- Payment information (processed securely by Stripe — we do not store card details)
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the collected information to:
- Provide and personalize the learning experience
- Track and display progress to parents
- Improve our services and develop new features
- Communicate with you about your account
- Ensure security and prevent fraud
3. Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)
Play&Learn is directed to children under the age of 13, and we comply with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), and equivalent child-privacy provisions in provincial and state law. Children do not create accounts themselves — a parent or legal guardian must sign up, add each child, and provide verifiable parental consent before any child data is collected.
What we collect from children
We collect the minimum information necessary to personalize math practice:
- First name or nickname (chosen by the parent — a real last name is never required)
- Grade level and curriculum region (e.g., Canada, United States)
- Learning activity: questions answered, accuracy, time spent, topics mastered
- Optional avatar selection and theme preference
We do not collect a child's last name, date of birth, email address, phone number, precise geolocation, photographs, voice recordings, or persistent identifiers used for behavioral advertising. We do not allow children to chat, post publicly, or communicate with other users.
How we use child information
Child data is used solely to (a) generate adaptive practice questions at the right difficulty level, (b) track mastery and progress so the parent can see how their child is doing, and (c) operate essential features like session continuation and rewards. We never use child data to advertise to the child, build a marketing profile, train third-party AI models, or sell or rent to any third party.
Parental consent
Before a parent can add a child, we require the parent to affirmatively check a consent box in which they confirm they are the parent or legal guardian, acknowledge the data practices described in this section, and agree to the Terms of Service. We record the date, the policy version in effect at that time, and the parent's account ID on our servers. The consent box is shown again whenever this policy is materially updated. Payment by credit card through our processor (Stripe) provides an additional layer of parent verification.
Parental rights
At any time, the parent may:
- Review all information collected about their child from the parent dashboard
- Delete a child profile and all associated learning history from the dashboard
- Delete their entire account (parent + all children) from the Settings page
- Refuse further collection by cancelling the subscription and deleting the account
- Contact us at the email address in Section 10 to request review, correction, or deletion
Third-party services and child data
Child learning data is stored on our own servers. We use a small number of operational subprocessors (e.g., Stripe for payments, our hosting provider, transactional email delivery for parent notifications). None of these subprocessors receive a child's first name, grade, or learning activity — they only receive parent-level account information required for the service. We never share child data with advertisers or data brokers.
Questions about our child privacy practices? Contact us at our contact page — we respond within one business day.
4. Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including encryption, secure servers, and regular security audits. However, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure.
5. Third-Party Payment Processing
We use Stripe to process payments. When you subscribe, your payment information (such as card details) is collected and stored directly by Stripe in accordance with their Privacy Policy. We do not store your card number, CVV, or other sensitive payment details on our servers. We receive only a limited customer record from Stripe (such as your email address and subscription status) to manage your account.
6. Account Deletion
You may delete your account at any time from the Settings page. When you delete your account:
- All your personal data, child profiles, learning history, and progress records are permanently deleted from our servers
- Any active subscription is cancelled and a prorated refund is issued
- This action is irreversible — deleted data cannot be recovered
Data retained by third parties: Your payment history and customer record held by Stripe are subject to Stripe's own data retention policies and are not deleted by us. Stripe retains this data for legal and regulatory compliance (e.g., tax reporting, fraud prevention). You may contact Stripe directly to request deletion of your payment data.
7. Re-Registration Policy
If you delete your account and later sign up again with the same email address, you will be treated as a new user. However, because your payment history is retained by our payment processor, we may detect that you have previously held an account. In such cases, the complimentary trial period offered to new users may be shortened or unavailable. This policy exists to ensure fair use of our trial offering and does not involve storing your personal data on our own servers after deletion.
8. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access and review your personal information
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your account and data (see Section 6)
- Opt out of non-essential communications
